Over 100 pupils at Hillside Avenue Primary School in Years R-6 take part in the Children’s University program. This scheme recognises and rewards children for all the voluntary learning they do out of school time that links to higher education courses. Participation in the scheme also encourages our children to take part in a wide variety of learning opportunities. It gives families great ideas for places to visit at weekends and in the holidays, provides children with a greater understanding about higher education and encourages children to start thinking about their future aspirations.
Children take part in validated activities within school time (lunchtime and after school clubs) as well as on family trips to recognised learning destinations across Norfolk and the country. Children’s University pupils use Passports To Learning in which they record the number of hours of completed CU validated learning activities.
Children are encouraged to progress through the national certification scheme, based on the number of hours of attendance to validated activities and bronze, silver and gold certificates are awarded at an annual graduation ceremony at the University of East Anglia.
