Quality teaching and learning is promoted by the use of the Early Years Foundation Stage which is split into 7 areas of learning.
There are 3 prime areas:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development (including Health and Self-care)
- Communication and Language
And 4 specific areas:
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
These areas continue through the reception year and give the children an excellent start in terms of the National Curriculum.
We also aim to support children in becoming effective learners, who are willing to explore, keep trying and be creative when solving problems.
Each half term we have a theme that many of our activities are based around. Each week different resources and activities will be available to the children. The activities will cover all seven areas of learning. Some will be adult led and many will be child-initiated. We aim to follow the interests of the children as much as possible, listening to what they like and planning relevant ways to help them learn. We also adapt activities through the week to keep them engaging and maximise learning opportunities for the children.
Almost all of our resources are freely accessible by the children, and we encourage children to access the resources they need to support their play.
We record the children’s progress in a book called their Learning Journey- a book all about them! This book contains photos and observations of the things the children have been doing in nursery, and shows how these link in to the seven areas of learning.
Parents and carers are invited to take their child’s learning journey home to explore and share. They are also invited to add their own observations, as we know that learning doesn’t stop outside of the Nursery!
