Year 6 Autumn 2019

Year 6 have had a great start to the school year. They really enjoyed their Yoga sessions which gave them an opportunity to explore a range of stretches and balances. The children also practised some deep breathing exercises which might help at stressful times.

Year 6 have been studying ‘Light and Shadow’.  They have been using the Ipads to capture photos of different aspects of light and shade around the school. They were able to take some clever photos which will be used in their work.

Year 3 Autumn 2019

We began our Science in Year 3 with an exciting enquiry entitled “Are you attractive enough?” We had lots of fun investigating with magnets and learned about magnets in everyday life.

Volcanoes

Year 3 have been learning a great deal this half term about volcanoes. We found out what makes the Earth angry and learnt about how volcanoes erupt. We then made our own volcanoes and created a volcanic eruption using baking soda and vinegar.

We began the year as fashion designers! We read the book called ‘Bill’s New Frock’ by Ann Fine and this made us think about the reasons why we wear different clothes. We then worked in groups to invent a new uniform for a particular group of people.

Year 2 Autumn 2019

In Year 2 this term we have been thinking about journeys and getting settled into our new year group. We went for a walk around the local area, looking for human and physical features. When we returned to the classroom we drew some super maps of our journeys.

We ended our enquiry with a fantastic home learning exhibition, where the children got to share their hard work with the parents.

Remembrance

On 11th November, we gathered as a whole school for an act of remembrance. We thought of those who strive to make the world a safer place and considered the importance of remembering the past and giving thanks for those who suffered and gave their lives for our peace and freedom. Thank you to everyone who supported the Royal British Legion by purchasing poppies and items from the stationery shop.

Nursery Autumn 2019

We started our new year by thinking about our families and finding out about each other by sharing our All About Me books.

We loved listening to the story Owl Babies and thinking about this family. We found our about owls and made our own model owls.

We moved onto a Colours theme with lots of exciting activities. We read Blue Kangaroo books and made blueberry muffins. We hopped into Green week, singing songs about frogs and making apple crumble. We made jam tarts and talked about fire fighters for Red week. We had a fun and informative visit from a fire fighter following on from this.

During Multicoloured week we read the story of Rainbow Fish and made our own beautiful salt dough fish.

Year 4 Autumn 2019

Year 4 Science

Year 4 have been learning about the human digestive system. We explored how our food is digested and how the waste turns into poo!

Year 4 Maths

We have enjoyed playing a variety of maths games using different manipulatives.

Hillside Harvest

We had a wonderful Harvest Festival on 15th October. All children from Reception to Year 6 came together in the school hall to take part in singing and celebrating Harvest. Father James led us in giving thanks for our food and thinking of the importance of sharing with one another. Many thanks for the generous donations for food – we collected over 300 items, all of which have been donated to the Norwich Foodbank.Well done everyone!

Have a listen to a short clip of our singing of ‘Harvest Samba’ from our Harvest Festival.

Year 6 trip to Caythorpe – Day 4

Last day…
more climbing, buggy building, flying trapeze and quad biking.
Lots of children got personal bests and challenged themselves.
After tea, campfire, singing and dancing and toasted marshmallows!
Time to start packing and saying goodbye.

Year 6 trip to Caythorpe – Day 1

All happy and healthy. All settled in their tents and some even showered before football in pyjamas.
Probably the shortest night of the year…
Looking forward to busy day of extreme activity tomorrow (and more sleep)
