Welcome to Hillside Nursery!

Here at Hillside we have a 52 place nursery, 26 places in the morning and 26 places in the afternoon.

Nursery session time are- 8:30am – 11:30am and 12:30pm – 3:30pm. To apply for a place for your child please contact the school office.

We aim to follow the interests of the children as much as possible and alter and extend activities throughout the week.

The Curriculum

Quality teaching and learning is promoted by the use of the Early Years Foundation Stage which is split into 6 areas of learning. These areas continue through the reception year and give the children an excellent start in terms of the National Curriculum. The areas of learning include, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication, Language and Literacy, Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Physical Development and Creative Development.

Planning

Each half term we have a theme that many of our activities are based around. Each week different resources and activities will be available to the children. The activities are planned to cover all six areas of learning. Some will be adult led and many will be child initiated. We aim to follow the interests of the children as much as possible and alter and extend activities throughout the week.

Making Progress

We record the children’s progress in a book called their Learning Journey- a book all about them! This book contains photos and observations of the things the children have been doing in nursery.

Progress is based on ongoing observations and assessments and recorded against the developmental stages for each area of learning.

Outside Play

We see outside learning as a key part of the Early Years curriculum and therefore there is always an opportunity to play outside. Once the children are in and we have had our carpet session the door is opened and a member of staff will supervise the outside play. The children can come in and out as they please. Each week, just like inside, the resources and activities vary.
