Sports Premium

From September 2013 the government has allocated funding directly to primary schools to support the provision of quality Sport/PE.  Each school will receive £8000 plus a further £5 per pupil (as per the school January census).  It is important that this money is used wisely, so that we get the maximum impact for our children.

In 2015/16, Hillside Avenue received a total of £9795. We spent this as follows:

Inset for teachers and teaching assistants, CPD for PE Leader £3378 Another TA began NPECTs training, core staff in KS1 began Real PE training to cascade to staff and individual teachers took the opportunity to develop skills in new sports to offer as after school clubs to pupils (eg netball). As a result of PE leader SSP training, a fun lunchtime Change for Life club was set up specifically for less active Y4 pupils. We also introduced the daily mile in the summer term for all pupils from Y1-6.  The school also gained the School Games Bronze Award.
Specialist PE support for teachers/afterschool clubs £5957 Rugby coach worked with Yr 5 on tag rugby skills in preparation for interschool tournament; cricket coach involved in class teaching during summer term and ran an afterschool club for KS2; EY benefitted from tennis coach input and specialists from Northern Ballet ran Y6 workshop for staff/pupils. PE specialists also worked with classteachers in Y3, 5 and 6 to update skills.
Transport costs £490 This enabled school &pupil participation in a range of inter school events and competitions from cross country running, tri-golf, tag rugby, mixed football, swimming galas to hockey and netball tournaments. Several children went on to compete in County finals and school team won local cricket competition.

For academic year 16-17, the school will receive funding at the same level, and this amount is £9790.  Anticipated expenditure is as follows:

Replenish and update resources £200 approx Including resources for less well known sports, eg korfball and enhancement of existing resources in line with latest ‘Safe Practice’ document.
