Reception

Reception classes

The ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ begins here in our Nursery and continues into the Reception year. We have two Reception classes, which work closely together and the children have many opportunities in the day to play with one another.

We offer the children a well-planned and well-resourced Foundation Stage curriculum in the Nursery which leads smoothly to their Reception year. This curriculum is play based, offering the children the chance to initiate their own learning indoors and out. The children are encouraged to be independent learners, supported by adults who understand the importance of child centred learning.

At Hillside we cover the six areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage. These are as outlined in the statutory framework supplied by the Department for Education.
