Welcome to Hillside Nursery!

Hillside Nursery is a purpose-built nursery run by a qualified teacher and experienced associate staff.

We aim to provide an exciting and stimulating environment where children will develop the necessary skills to become confident, independent learners. Both indoor and outdoor environments offer your child play-based opportunities to learn in fun, meaningful contexts.

We work alongside parents to ensure that children have the best start to their education. We record and track the children's progress using Tapestry, an online learning journey that is available for you to view at any time and for you to add your observations and comments to create an all round profile.

We would love to show you round our setting and show you the provision on offer at Hillside.

The Nursery is an integral part of Hillside Avenue Primary and Nursery School, and Nursery children make use of facilities such as the school Hall for PE and the school field as well as taking part in some school events. Transition into school is very positive and runs smoothly with our visit sessions and transition arrangements, and we find Nursery children are confident starting school because they already know the school well.

What sessions do we offer?

Here at Hillside we have space for 26 children in the morning and 26 children in the afternoon. We accept both the universal 15 hour funding and the extended 30 hours funding (Please note: it is the responsibility of the parent or carer to apply for the 30 hours funding before the 31st of the month before they wish the funding to begin). It is also possible to pay for Nursery sessions at a cost of £13.50 per 3 hour session.

Parents may opt for their children to do any combination of morning and afternoon sessions and can also chose for their child to stay all day. Nursery session times are- 8:30am – 11:30am and 12:30pm – 3:30pm.

The lunch hour is between 11:30 and 12:30. There is a lunchtime supervision cost of £4.50 per lunchtime. Early Years funding cannot be used to cover this hour.

Charges for additional sessions and lunch times will still be applicable for children who are absent due to sickness, holidays or other family circumstances.

The Curriculum

Quality teaching and learning is promoted by the use of the Early Years Foundation Stage which is split into 7 areas of learning.

There are 3 prime areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development (including Health and Self-care)
  • Communication and Language

And 4 specific areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

These areas are continued in the Reception Year and give the children an excellent start in terms of the National Curriculum.

We aim to support children in becoming effective learners, who are, resilient, willing to explore, persistent in the face of challenge and creative when problem solving. The Early Years are the beginning of your child’s educational journey and at Hillside, we would love to be a part of that journey. We look forward to hearing from you.
